Almonds are one of the most widely consumed healthy diets worldwide. Packed with the benefits of protein, fiber, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin E, almonds provide many health benefits. They help keep your skin healthy, reduce the risk of heart disease, reduce the risk of cancer and lower blood pressure levels.
However, like other healthy foods, high intake of almonds is not good for health as it can lead to gastrointestinal problems. But are there people who should stay away from almonds? Doctors say yes.
Those who are using certain medications
People who take constipation medications, blood pressure and antibiotics should also consult their dietitian before including almonds in their diet, the nutritionist said. Almonds are naturally high in manganese. Some almonds provide you with 0.6 milligrams of this mineral, which is 27 percent of the daily value. Eating more almonds in a diet high in manganese can trigger drug interactions.
People with nuts allergies
If you have any kind of nuts allergy and have rashes, swelling and difficulty breathing after eating nuts, also avoid almonds. Eating nuts can lead to anaphylaxis, which is fatal. Consult your doctor immediately.
Those who have trouble swallowing
Young children and some elderly people, even those who have difficulty swallowing, should avoid these nuts as it increases the risk of suffocation. People with dementia, Parkinson’s disease and reduced mobility may be at higher risk.
Those who are taking vitamin E supplement
Almonds are high in vitamin E. 28 grams of almonds contain 7.4 milligrams of vitamin E and our daily requirement of this nutrient is 15 mg. Excessive intake of almonds along with vitamin E supplementation can lead to overdose of vitamin E. This can lead to problems such as boredom, blurred vision, headaches, diarrhea and flatulence. People with kidney stones should also stop eating almonds. These make the problem worse.
